Job Description
The Deputy Clinical Chief of Staff is responsible for owning and advancing strategic initiatives that impact central and market clinical operations of the organization. Under the leadership of the Clinical Chief of Staff, the incumbent in this role will ensure the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Chief of Staff and Clinical Executive Team of the company. He/She is a key constituent of the team who will help drive concerted efforts that will advance the company in reaching its vision, mission, and goals. This is high impact and visible position in the organization that ensures the deliverables of most commitments attained by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Clinical Chief of Staff and the Clinical Executive Team (CET). Serves as a trusted advisor to the CET, with the intention to develop towards future leadership roles as the organization grows.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works directly with Clinical Chief of Staff to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of the CMO and CET to facilitate timely decision making, coordination, and strategic alignment in service of reaching company vision, mission, and goals; plus, can fill in for and represent the Clinical Chief of Staff as his surrogate.
  • Executes established management cadence and annual goal-setting processes; continuously identifying ways to improve processes; proactive to seek and execute delegated responsibilities.
  • Ensures coherence, accuracy, & timely delivery of materials for management meetings & initiatives.
  • Enhances accountability of leaders by assisting in the development and tracking of KPIs, metrics, outcomes and – and aiding in – completion of commitments.
  • Serves as consultant/advisor to help prepare market and corporate clinical leaders for presentations to CMO/CET, plus defines and has a clear understanding of drivers for successful performance.
  • Develops capability to quickly bring insight to the drivers of operational and financial results to help self and others better understand the business and become prepared to take on business line roles.
  • Develops trusting relationships with all corporate and market-based clinical and business leaders to determine potential opportunities/misalignment and identify ways to improve/resolve.
  • Collaborates, facilitates, and influences multi-stakeholder discussions to drive strategic and operational initiatives forward to completion.
  • Aids Chief of Staff in improving quality and scope of advice to CMO and other clinical leaders related to strategic, operational, and personnel issues to improve decision making.
  • Supports, prioritizes and completes ad-hoc initiatives and manages projects to completion.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Superior organizational, analytics, statistics and leadership skills and business savvy to allow for managing multiple activities towards deadlines.

·         Ability to see the “big picture” when many initiatives require prioritization due to conflict or work load.

·         Demonstrated learning agility, intellectual and strategic capacity (e.g., ability to quickly gain understanding of the overall organization’s business/clinical model and health care value chain, solve problems, execute annual review and refinement of the core clinical model, adopt new frameworks, and learnings from others).

·         Demonstrated intellectual curiosity as well as interest in learning and applying new things.

·         Track record of emotional intelligence, resilience and ability to communicate clearly (written and verbal) to present ideas, resolve conflict, and gain consensus.

·         Track record of relationship development & management with diverse group of people, including senior management.

·         Strong critical thinking skills (refine, summarize and clearly present data and information), tech savviness, and track record of self-service of tools and resources.

·         At least 5 years of experience in project management and influencing stakeholders in a matrix organization, plus strong track record of presenting to executive audiences.

·         Strong service mindset in addition to management responsibility within a business unit operations or enterprise role.

·         Solid understanding of business functions (HR, Finance, Sales/Marketing, IT, Legal, Compliance), healthcare P&L drivers

·         Strong experience in facilitation and training.

·         Expert communicator with fluency in English, bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

·         Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

·         This role requires use and exercise of independent business judgment.

Education and Experience:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration or related field required.

·         Master’s Degree and clinical training (e.g, Pharm D, NP, MD) preferred.

·         A minimum of 5 years work experience in a consultative or project management role required.

·         7+ years’ experience within healthcare (e.g., payer, health system, large provider group, life sciences)
