ChenMed Encourages Increased Support for Value-Based Care and Medicare Advantage in Letter to CMS

At ChenMed, we see each day how value-based care leads to better outcomes for the seniors who visit our centers. As a full-risk Medicare Advantage provider, ChenMed provides our patients with more access to care, more convenience in accessing it, and more preventive services. For example, at ChenMed, our physicians have patient panel sizes that are less than one-fifth the size of the national average (450 vs. 2,300). This care leads to exceptional results, with ChenMed rates of emergency room visits 33.6 percent lower than the average among comparable Medicare beneficiaries.

On December 14, ChenMed and six other provider and medical groups – Aledade, the American Academy of Family Physicians, CAPG, Iora Health, Medical Group Management Association, and Texas Medical Association – sent a joint letter to CMS Administrator Seema Verma. In it, we highlighted the effectiveness of value-based care arrangements that reward physicians who keep patients healthier.

We hope CMS further explores innovative health care models as it prioritizes approaches like Medicare Advantage that are delivering better outcomes for patients and lowering overall costs for the entire health care system. ChenMed fully supports increasing patient choice and removing barriers that limit Medicare Advantage competition. We’re eager to work with CMS and Administrator Verma to achieve our common goals of increasing value and quality across the health care system to improve the lives of more patients.
