CMS Administrator Seema Verma Visits ChenMed Center in Virginia

Recently, Seema Verma, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator, visited the JenCare Senior Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, to learn more about how we provide outstanding care through Medicare Advantage. She toured the facilities and spent time with ChenMed doctors, including our CEO Dr. Chris Chen. We also shared insights from our recent report, which demonstrates how our senior medical centers provide better health care outcomes and reduce costs for low-income seniors with multiple chronic conditions.

Medicare Advantage is already working to make a real difference in people's lives in Richmond, and around the United States. As a full-risk Medicare Advantage provider, ChenMed delivers better care, better outcomes, and lower costs to some of the most challenging patients – low-income seniors managing multiple and major chronic conditions. In the Richmond area, JenCare patients average 30.8 percent fewer hospital admissions and 28.4 percent fewer in-patient days than the average Richmond-area Medicare beneficiary.

Our doctors who met with Administrator Verma also explained that JenCare doctors in Richmond average 193 minutes of face-to-face time with each patient annually – which is more than nine times the national average. This time investment in our patients has proven to lead to better outcomes.

We are grateful to Administrator Verma and the whole team at CMS for taking the time to visit our center in Richmond. We look forward to continuing to work with her and her team to strengthen Medicare Advantage so we can continue delivering the best care to our patients.
