Physician-owned businesses are facing a grave financial threat from the global pandemic, spurred by a dramatic drop in in-person patient visits and elective procedures. In one recent survey, nearly half (48 percent) of practice owners reported furloughing staff and 43 percent revealed “tremendous financial strains” that could lead to practice closures.

And new research from Harvard shows these losses will worsen substantially if the U.S. experiences a second viral peak later in the year or reimbursement rates for telehealth visits revert to pre-COVID 19 levels.
